# Add MCP servers to JetBrains AI Assistant

JetBrains AI Assistant takes MCP servers in its settings screen, where you paste JSON in the mcpServers shape.

- **Where**: Open Settings > Tools > AI Assistant > Model Context Protocol (MCP), click Add and paste the JSON, using a url for remote servers.
- **Top-level key**: `mcpServers`
- **Format**: json (pasted in UI)
- **OAuth for remote servers**: 

## Example config

This example adds GitHub's hosted server and Playwright as a local server, in the shape this client expects.

## Notes and quirks

- Servers can be added at global or project level.
- An Import from Claude option is available.
- Remote entries take a url; one ending in /sse is treated as SSE.
- Header and OAuth support for remote servers isn't documented.
- The IDE can also act as an MCP server itself, under Settings | Tools | MCP Server.
